Q Video Compression Engine

The compression engine is the heart of Q and is Aspex proprietory IP, the result of over 450-man years experience in the development of software programmable parallel cores and applications for the professional imaging and broadcasting industries.

Q's compression engine software programmability allows a single engine to offer support for:

• H.264/AVC: Baseline, Main and High Profile up to HP@L4.1 
• VC-1/WM9: Main and Advanced Profile up to AP@L3
• MPEG-2: up to MP@HL
• support for other codecs to be programmed in
• "Smart" transcoding from MPEG-2 to H.264/AVC and/or VC-1/WM9

The compression engine supports a wide range of resolutions, including:

• 1920x1080p60 single-stream encoding
• 1920x1080p30/i60 'smart' transcoding
• 4x channel of SD with mixed codecs and resolutions
• multiple channels at different resolutions up to performance of single-stream HD encoding

and a variety of colour depths:

• 4:2:0, 4:2:2, 4:4:4 encoding modes at 8-bit and 10-bit

Q Video Preprocessor

Video pre-processing is implemented in a mixture of hardware and software to deliver a very flexible, multichannel engine capable of operating independently on different input streams to suppy:

• Video windowing
• 1D LUT contrast correction (4x channels at 8-bit or single 10-bit channel)
• Dithering
• Colour space conversion and chroma subsampling
• De-interlacing
• 3:2 removal
• Scaling
• Noise reduction
• PiP and logo overlay (including multiple buffers for animated logos)
• Frame capture
